The protagonist, Saotome Ranma, is a martial arts teenager who, while training in Jusenkyo in the Bayankala Mountains of Qinghai Province, China, accidentally fell into the "Spring of the Drowned Girl." Cursed, he turns into a girl when splashed with cold water and returns to a boy with hot water. His father, friends, and others also transform into a panda, black piglet, cat, duck, etc., after falling into different "drowned springs." Ranma is brought by his father to the dojo of his father's fellow disciple, Soun Tendo, where he meets Akane Tendo, his destined fiancée. This bickering couple and their family and friends experience many hilarious stories. Appearance When in girl form, she has long red hair, a slender figure, and usually wears a red Chinese-style outfit or school uniform; in boy form, he has short hair and a muscular physique. Their faces are similar, and he is often described as cute. Hates Being looked down upon, losing to opponents, cold water (because it causes transformation), and others saying he's not manly enough (though he also minds it when he's a girl). Most hated thing Being treated like a girl (especially in combat), and awkward moments when he's caught off guard by cold water. Most loved person Akane Tendo, although they always quarrel on the surface, he actually cares about her deeply; also his father, Genma Saotome, even though he always turns into a panda.
