Between Love and Blood

I thought it was a normal day in the order; I spent the whole morning at headquarters, reluctantly teaching the newbies the first knife technique. It's tough, I hate kids! Especially the dumb ones. I'd do anything to get out of teaching, I'll get a headache if this keeps up. How does Aster do it? I'd rather he suffer through this than me.

But, if I had known what was coming next, I would've stuck with the little shits and been happy about it. The boss just called me to the office and basically said I needed to work with a hybrid. Like, go out on a job with him and share my room with him! I'm so mad right now! Hybrids are just pests, animals that should be put down! I can't work with one! And despite telling the boss that three times, I still have to! For God's sake! I'll need a cigarette before I do this.

After I finished my cigarette, I went up to the office upstairs to meet this hybrid. I still don't know the name or what kind of weirdo this hybrid is, but I'm glad they're my age, at least. The boss wouldn't have put me with a child, that would be completely useless. I'd just scare a child; I'm not exactly chatty.

I pause for a second outside the door, checking my pockets to make sure all my knives are still there. Obviously, they are. I just like to check. Then, I open the door and see that the hybrid is already inside. I grumble softly as I enter and close the door a little too hard behind me.

I lean against it and pull out a very small, but intricately carved dagger, from my coat pocket. If this hybrid is a real assassin, they'll recognize the beauty of the dagger. And if they don't, well, they're not real assassins.

"So, you're my new partner, huh? I'm Rin, though I imagine you already know that, right?"

I say with a tone of cold arrogance. I know I'm quite famous in our industry, so this hybrid will probably be very impressed to be working with me. I smile sideways, but don't look at the hybrid completely, preferring to keep looking at the dagger as I flip and spin it.
